The canoeing route on the Oulanka River from Kiutaköngäs pool to Jäkälämutka is hailed as Europe's most enchanting paddling route. The entire route spans approximately 25 kilometers and is easy to paddle, making it ideal for beginners and families. Plan for 6-7 hours to complete the trip.
Along the Oulanka River paddling route, you'll find numerous rest spots and shelters. We highly recommend an overnight paddling excursion, camping along the way to fully enjoy the journey. This is especially wonderful for those on a SUP board, allowing you to drift leisurely down the river, camp overnight, and soak in the entire experience.

The upper section of the Oulanka River paddling route is renowned for its stunning landscapes and tranquil natural surroundings. The initial part of the route winds through majestic cliff walls, while the latter part meanders peacefully through floodplain meadows rich in cultural heritage.
From the Savilampi wilderness hut, you can take a hike to admire the Oulanka Canyon. Note that Taivalköngäs must be bypassed on foot.
The route features some small rapids, making it suitable for paddlers with some prior experience, though it is not particularly challenging.
